Since Fall has creeped around the corner and is finally here, I've been hearing talk of "Seasonal Depression." My friends were all chatting about it, saying when winter comes, they enter a state of "depression" per se. They said that it's because everything is dead, grey, and gloomy throughout winter and I could not even believe that. I love everything about winter; it's my favorite season! I love the freezing cold weather, I love waking up to a grey and gloomy day, and come on, the holidays. Even though Winter technically doesn't start until December 21st this year, the end of fall is still when it gets pretty cold and this so-called "seasonal depression" sets in.
All year long, I look forward to mid to late October because that's when it starts getting chilly and you can wear your cute fall outfits, doing fun fall activities, and of course the N.C. State Fair. These are a few of my favorite aspects of fall; and I can't forget about the leaves changing. Living in the Western North Carolina mountains, you get to see the leaves really change colors. The crisp fall breeze, the vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges of the leaves, and apple and pumpkin EVERYTHING. Now this "seasonal depression" might not include the fun fall festivities, but how could you even start to feel that way once those are over?
When the end of fall approaches, you have the holidays coming! Thanksgiving is the best because you can just stuff your face with all the foods, and then once Thanksgiving comes, you have Christmas to look forward too; and if you don't celebrate Christmas, that's totally fine, you can still have holiday spirit for whichever holiday you're celebrating! We can all agree on the deliciousness of peppermint, which is a signature in all winter treats. Once the holidays are over, you might experience some winter blues. That's okay though! Just throw on your favorite sweater, grab a yummy peppermint mocha from Starbucks and think about the joy winter brings. I don't let Seasonal Depression impact my life, so you shouldn't either!
