Atattoo is a permanent mark in your skin with ink. Some people believe that tattoos destroy your body by permanently marking it with a stamp looking word or symbol. While others believe that it’s a way to express yourself through a form of art. Personally, I am all for tattoos. I have two tattoos myself, and hopefully more to come. I believe that if they mean something to the individual being tattooed there is nothing wrong with having them. To those planning on getting their first tattoo or to those who already have tattoos know how important it is to not let others affect your opinion on your ink.
It’s hard for some people to understand the meaning of others’ tattoos. For instance, some people see my tattoos and think “why?” No one understands the meaning behind them unless I sit there and explain each one individually, and sometimes I do not care to share the meanings since it is a personal topic to me. Some people would even say that they do not see the point in why I would decide to get the tattoos I have in the first place. The most important thing about getting a tattoo is that if it means something to you, then why let anyone else’s opinions affect how you feel about it. At first I was nervous and would feel down when others would ask me questions like “Why would you get that?” or “What do they mean?” and even “Why that?” Then I realized that it does not matter what others think about my tattoos because they mean something to me, I’m happy with them, and that is all that matters.
Some tattoos people decide to get are very common quotes or symbols; which is completely okay. Having a common quote or symbol tattooed on you does not make it stupid or a basic tattoo. People fail to realize the story behind the ink, and solely look upon it as if it was just another basic thing to get tattooed on your body. Two of my best friends both have the same tattoo in different places on their body, at different times in their lives, and for different reasons. The personal meanings behind their quote could not have been more different. So just because the tattoo is something common, does not mean it is basic or stupid.
People tend to judge others' choices of tattoos since they do not understand the reasoning or meaning of what others decide to get. It’s important to keep an open mind when looking at another’s tattoo. Whether someone gets a “basic” quote, a common symbol, or something that appears to be completely random and pointless can have a meaning behind it. Don’t get me wrong, some people do make bad choices that they admit happened on a drunken night or was a spur of the
moment decision, but a majority of the time, a tattoo has a strong meaning to that person who has it. In much shorter words, do not judge others’ tattoos.
