Don't Feel Bad For Me For Staying Home

Why staying home for college was the best decision for me.

College is such an exciting time in a teenager’s life. When we think college, we think of this new found freedom we are going to have. Living on our own, eating whatever we want, going out whenever we want, because there are no parents there to tell you otherwise. This is why when I decided to stay home for college, I often got the response, “oh, that must suck.” So here is a list of reasons for me, and probably a lot of other people on why not going away for college doesn’t suck for us.

1. My own room, my own big bed, my own space

Something that always bothered me the most about going away to college, was living in a dorm. I love the fact that I came home after school or work and just lay in my full sized bed all by myself.

2. Dogs, dogs, and more dogs

I am an animal love and I know what kind of separation anxiety I would have without being able to see my pets for a long period of time. Honestly dogs should just be the only reason to stay home.

3. Freshman 15??

I’m probably not going to get the Freshman 15, at least I hope I don’t. It’s a lot easier to avoid drinking all the time and eating ramen noodles when you stay home for school.

4. Doing Laundry doesn’t suck

I can do my laundry whenever I want, without having to waste a bunch of coins. Also, if I’m at work or school or something, I just ask my mom to throw a load in for me. Bonus.

5. It’s like I go to multiple schools!

I have the means to visit my friends at school whenever I want. So I can just pretend I go there right?

6. I’m not a broke college student

I have had the same stable job since my junior year of high school. I can work as many hours as I feel fit and I never have to ask my parents to wire me money, which I think is kind of cool.

Staying home for college is not for everybody. I know a lot of my friends that are away are having the time of their life and I couldn’t be happier for them that they have found their place, but just know that I am having a pretty great time too.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
