This goes out to the students that are not graduating college on time.
It goes out to the one with no plan after graduation.
It goes out to the teens that are scared of not being able to make it.
I'm here to tell you that it's OK, man. If you're not graduating in the four-year time, its OK. Only 19 percent of college students earn a bachelor's degree in four years. So don't think of yourself as a failure (if that's what you're thinking). Not only are you getting an extra year or two (or three) to gain wisdom or whatever, but you also get to party for another year or so. So congratulations!! You get to delay adult life and that's awesome. I wish I could have that extra year.
And now to the ones with no plan. I feel you. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing beyond graduation. One thing I know is that I am not going to start planning until I find something I really want. I will travel until have no money in my bank account. So if you have no plans, do the research, find something you really really love and then put in the work for it. I can guarantee that you'll get it. Recently, I realized that I will never be prepared for the things that come at me in life no matter how much money I have or how much knowledge I have gained or how much I have planned. So just take it day by day and see what happens.
Lastly, this is for the ones that are scared they will not make it. If you're in the type of major that doesn't guarantee a job after college, it s probably terrifying. You're probably the kind that is majoring in art or music performance. Well, you're my favorite person because you are going for your dreams and I hope you make it. Just don't give up on that dream. If you want to be a stand-up comedian or a screenwriter, keep on doing what you're doing. Then, meet Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling (and get me their autographs because I love them).
No matter what road you take, whether its the one less traveled or not, there will be roadblocks. Don't turn around, just take that detour. It may take a little while but you'll get there in the end. Don't give up. Make momma proud.
