With the results of the 2016 election, many people seem to be at a loss for words. While some are celebrating, others are trying to cope with disappointment. It's a difficult divide. Disappointment is very complex, containing a mix of emotions like anger, sadness, and many others that are so subtle they are unidentifiable. This mixture of emotions is often harder to deal with than each individual emotion. It may not be the easy part of life, but it can help us figure out our world.

Pick Yourself Up

Disappointment will not last forever. Good things will happen and new opportunities will come along. Disappointment may make it seem like nothing will turn around, but it will. It is only a temporary inconvenience. The hardest part about dealing with disappointment is trying to shake the feeling. No one likes to feel disappointment or make another disappointed, but it happens. We just have to gain perspective and learn from the situation to prevent it from occurring as often as it does.

Accept It

Accept the outcome whatever it may be. Disappointment is a part of life and all parts of life help us grow. It doesn't just happen once, we will continue to be disappointed throughout life. We, as humans, just have to accept that this may be a part of the results of our endeavors. Practicing acceptance can help us to move on quicker and notice the good things in life more. Disappointment and the way we deal with it helps our character to flourish and develops who we become as people.

Brush It Off

You cannot control the results of every situation. Things happen and though we try to alter the results, it is impossible. All we can do is shake it off and try again. There are great parts of life and we cannot let disappointment alter them. Finding a new outlook or reassessing the situation can help us to figure out how or why disappointment occurs in our lives. Dwelling on disappointment is like waiting for paint to dry, slow and a waste of time.

Make the Best Of It

John Wooden once said, "Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out." Any situation can be morphed for the better. Especially right now, people are so concerned for the future of our nation with Donald Trump being elected president. Those who are opposed to him do not have to dwell on the disappointment of his upcoming presidency. By trying to look at this from the best point of view, we can create the best possible future for our country.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
