A cliche Dr.Seuss quote everyone has heard a million times. But how accurate is it really? How much does it actually relate to everything that life throws at you? I am going to break this down into three categories: love, loss, and growing up.
Love
Many have heard this when a relationship comes to an end and someone is dwelling on the past. When you spend time with someone you love, you obviously make so many memories that are extremely hard to forget if that relationship comes to an abrupt end. You miss the person so much that thinking back on all of those memories you made can make your heart physically hurt. You will go through life meeting people, and saying goodbye to people. Not everyone is meant to stay. So if you and your significant other don't end up together, there's a reason why. Everything happens for a reason. So when you think back on all these memories, smile because they happened. You got to experience these things with a person you loved. This person helped you grow and find yourself. If it were not for them, you may not be the way you are today.
Loss
The unfortunate reality of life is that the good die young, and the good ones go too soon. Many kids will lose a loved one too soon. Many will go through the seven stages of grief, but some will not. You miss that person with all of your heart everyday. The hard reality to face is that they will never physically be with you again. But once again, you can cry about it, or you can smile because you had them for as long as you did. I smile remembering my mom because I was lucky enough to have her for nineteen years of my life. That's nineteen years of memories for me to look back on with a smile on my face. Some days are harder than others, and that's extremely understandable, but it's easier to push through the pain when you're smiling instead of crying.
Growing Up
Growing up is something that everyone is scared of. People are afraid of change and stepping out of their comfort zone -- some more than others. There comes a point in your life where "being a kid" comes to an end. Most of the time, it happens when someone graduates from college, and finally has to step out into the real world. Don't dwell on the fact that your childhood is over, smile because you had people who loved you and got you to the point that you're at today. If it weren't for your family, teachers, and friends pushing you to be the best that you can be, you would not be prepared for what life has to offer you. Be thankful that you're prepared, and wear a smile on your face as you take your first steps into the real world.
The popular Dr. Seuss quote has been quoted frequently. But if you really think about it, it's actually very relatable.
