Why I Don't Care Who You're Voting For

I'm tired of the bickering, the trash talking, the memes and the hatefulness.

Why I Don't Care Who You're Voting For
Hermene Hartman

I could start this article off by telling everyone whom I am planning on voting for and why, but frankly I won't. It is only my business who I am voting for.

I think we can all agree that America is going to have a rough next four years no matter who gets in office. We have two people who have given countless reasons why none of us should trust them. We have two people that are allowing this election to become as ugly as it can get. This ugliness is reaching all of the Americans as well.

I have a wide range of friends where some are voting for Hillary because they like her, and most because Bernie and Obama endorsed her. I also have a lot of friends voting for Trump. I'm always interested to hear what people like and dislike about the presidential candidates. This election has had so many twists and turns because of the media, and many people are believing everything they see on the Internet.

I have seen first hand how rude people are being to each other. I'm witnessing friends choosing not to be friends with each other anymore because of who they are voting for. Words like ignorant, stupid, racist, privileged, too young to understand and idiotic are just some of the harsh things that I see from both sides. I've had a lot of conversations with children about what they think about the upcoming election and trust me when I say they hear what you are saying around them. These words that we use to describe people who have a difference of opinion are what they are hearing. These types of things that we fight so hard not to have children saying to each other are exactly what we are saying as adults to one another. We can't stop bullying with the children if we are doing it to each other.

The thing about America is the fact that we are allowed to believe in what we want. We can have differencing of opinions, but does that mean that we cannot be friends? I have plenty of friends that have political, religious and moral opposing views, but we still can do life together and build each other from these differences.

It's time to stop belittling people on what their opinions are. It's time to stop bickering on social media and hating people for what they post. I love the fact that I can believe in whatever I want in this country, but I hate the fact that if I believe in the "wrong" thing, especially on our college campus, that I will lose friendships and be completely torn to shreds for these views. I'm entitled to my opinion, just as much as you are. I don't care who you are voting for because that doesn't change who I am voting for.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
