I don't care that you voted for the republican nominee. I don't care that you voted for another white male. I don't even care that you voted for someone other than Hillary Clinton.
But there are some things that I do care about. Things that hold even more importance than the political party or gender that the candidate falls under. Things that should have been considered when you checked his name on the ballot. Things that any person, let alone the president of a prosperous nation, should not say, think, or do. I care about so much more than what you thought was acceptable.
I care that you voted for a racist. A man whose racial attacks date back several decades. Someone whose judgment solely bases on the color of another's skin and cultural background. One who will never treat Hispanics, Blacks and Muslims with the respect they deserve and won't even attempt to give them their full rights as American citizens. I care that you supported someone who has never taken responsibility for his uncivil incidents. That accuses people of color of being "criminals" and "rapists". A person that proclaims his love for certain racial groups, to simply boost his own campaign.
I also care that you voted for someone with the least qualification. That you believe our country is only a business. That he has had no experience in politics or the military whatsoever, but still appears as a credentialed candidate. I care that you did not care about about the other aspects of the country, as it is more than just organizing money in a large corporation. That you voted for nothing but a greedy and selfish man. Someone who will fail in representing our country with what we as Americans deserve.
Lastly, I carethat you voted for someone with obvious sexist behavior. A man who advocates that a woman's worth is just of her appearance. That you believe our representative should be allowed to publicly ridicule women with crude names and insulting expressions. That he has a long list of women who accused him of assault. What I mainly care about is that even with women in your life--mother, daughter, sister-- you still chose a person who considers his actions and words towards women justifiable.
Maybe I'm crazy. I'm crazy to think that there was an apparent choice during this election. That no one could possibly vote for someone with these extreme characteristics. And now America is in the midst of intense fear. Not because the next president is involved in the republican party or even because the next president is a man. But because of his judgment of race, religion, and women while having minimal knowledge on how to lead a successful version of the United States, with the continuation of our country's key values: liberty, diversity and equality.
