I Don't Care For Professional Sports

I don't watch them and here's why

I hate admitting this in a country and society that is devoured by their favorite teams and players, but I don't care to watch professional sports. I strongly dislike spending my leisure time watching people chase after balls of various shapes and sizes. I don't care to keep up with the current NFL fantasy football statistics or pay attention to March Madness brackets.

For starters, I don't pay for cable. I think it's ridiculous to pay upwards of a hundred of dollars a month for thousands of channels when I know I'll watch the same 4 or 5 channels. There is no point of me to spend nearly $30 per channel I watch. It simply doesn't make financial sense. There are many other reasons I don't have cable television, but not having cable is one reason I don't care for professional sports.

Secondly, I hate the reality that a quarterback for an NFL team or a point guard for the top basketball team in the league will make millions of dollars a year. There are thousands of homeless and starving individuals (many of whom are children) on the streets and here are these people chasing and tackling each other for a ball. Not the mention the million of dollars put into constructing these stadiums and arenas. I have to wonder how much of that money is circulated back into the pockets of the average person, and how much of it sits in the owner's pockets. I would rather take my time and money to devote it to something that I feel actually matters in the grand scheme of the world.

Another reason I don't care for professional sports is that I, myself, am not coordinated at all. I trip over my own feet, fall up the stairs and can practically injure myself in any situation. To some extent, I am jealous of the athletic abilities of these people. I have the mention that this is a very small- almost non-existent sense of jealousy.

Pertaining to the point I just made, athletics, and fitness in general, aren't very important to me, so it doesn't make sense (in my world) to care about sports. In all honestly, I just don't see the point of the hype and stardom of professional players. I am not saying all professional players are horrible people, but I'm simply pointing out the fact that they are dramatized as being important people. I have to ask myself at times, are these people really important?

I'm not saying sports are a waste of time and should be abolished. They are incredibly beneficial in so many ways. I am just questioning the purpose of professional leagues in everyday life. I am questioning the value and importance our society has placed on these activities and more importantly these people.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
