With election season right around the corner, many people are finding that the race for the White House is kind of a joke. On one side, we have Donald John Trump and the whole reality TV star that he. It is obvious to identify that there may be a slight case of narcissism (emphasis on the slight). On the other side, we see Hillary Rodham Clinton who has only been surrounded by controversy. We cannot forget about Gary Johnson, of the Libertarian party, who pretty much wants to legalize everything, such as prostitution, to see better regulation and safety for individuals. Then there's Jill Stein, or the female Bernie, of the Green party. OnTheIssues.org show that both Bernie and Stein share many of the same values.
In all honesty, the presidential race has become a joke. The two primary candidates, Trump and Hillary, are always in the spotlight for something they said or did. Trump is called on his usual "racist" remarks, even though it is usually blown up by the media in some way. Hillary is called on Benghazi and causing the death of four American lives, the private server, and now the whole #DNCLeak. For those who do not know about the DNC leak, Wikileaks revealed emails that show collusion among delegates to force a win for Hillary and show that Bernie never really had a chance to receive the nomination.
The point that I am getting with all of these remarks is that the American millennial needs to care about politics (and not just in a way that screams ignorance, which both parties show, but rather, in an open-minded, research-driven way that is not just fueled by beautiful words that mean nothing). The biggest example of this comes from the Sanders supporters. I, at first, was a Sanders supporter, even though I am a registered Republican. Hearing free education and higher wages was exciting until I researched his policies and what he stands for more. I learned that his plan for free education and other great things would not work out and would greatly hurt the American economy. CBS News released an article revealing how much Sanders' policies would cost, coming in at almost 18 trillion dollars. That is just a little less than our nation's current debt situation. After seeing this, I realized that although I was for his policies, his policies would have more negative effects than positive effects on the American people.
Do your research, invest in a candidate who will bring the greatest positive change and unity to America. Politics are our future, no matter how much we hate it. We have to be focused on what is great for our nation and not what we as an individual human want.
