I Don't Believe In Spring Cleaning

Why don't you just clean year round?

It has come to that time of year where people are getting their spring cleaning on. Yards are being cleaned up, cars washed, house cleaned, clothes changed out, etc. Well, I don't really believe in all that.

I'm not much of a spring cleaner. I'm sure a lot of what gets done is considered spring cleaning, but I just consider it cleaning. Winter is over, so yeah clean up the yard some. I might give my car a good washing, but I might not. My clothes are organized all the time. I randomly go through my room and clean stuff out so there really isn't anything for me to do.

I don't really believe in spring cleaning, to begin with. I mean, most of the stuff people do I feel could be done year round. There are all these articles out there with tips and tricks on getting everything clean. Once again, stuff that could be done year round. Why wait until this one specific time to clean your house?

I get that a lot of people mainly do it because after it's done, you feel good. Winter is finally over, everything is clean and fresh and ready for summer. I admit that, yeah, when I do some cleaning out around this time of year it does feel kind of good. However, so does every other time I clean.

Any time I get new clothes I go through all the ones I have and toss some stuff out. I have a "junk" drawer that I throw random stuff in and I'll go through that every once and again and fix it up. I' rearrange my room from time to time which means places that were covered get cleaned and the whole room is fresh. It feels just as good doing it then as it would come spring.

I feel like waiting for spring is just being lazy in a sense. It's giving in to winter and losing the energy to do anything. I like doing some cleaning in the winter because winter does kind of suck. It sucks the energy out of you and you really don't want to do any cleaning or organizing. It's nice to fight against that and feel like you really accomplished something.

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy watching people doing everything at once and doing all this work, that I've kept up with throughout the whole year. I'll probably go do something fun and not stress out about all the things that need to get done. I have no list.

So for those preparing for their annual cleaning, I wish you good luck. I hope you get everything done and I do hope that you feel good afterward. Just give it a thought about doing things more often.

What do you think about spring cleaning? Do you enjoy it? Do you agree that a lot of it should just be done year round?

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
