I am all about making a resolution, to better yourself, or to make a must needed change in your life; but I am not about New Years Resolutions. Annually, at the end of December, people everywhere make a plan to change something in their life for the coming New Year. An ongoing joke with resolution makers is that you will keep that resolution for about a week and then switch right on back to your normal routine. I think the whole idea of designating a specific time to better yourself defeats the purpose.
Last year I decided to and give New Years Resolutions another shot. I made plans to make time to do certain things that I have always wanted to do. Not only did I forget about these things about 3 days in, when I did remember, I was completely unmotivated because it didn’t seem like a real plan, just a “New Years Resolution.” I kept thinking “You’re supposed to fail at these, right?” Making these resolutions just made it harder for me to actually do them. I’m sure that New Years Resolutions work for some people, who are extremely practical and goal motivated, but for me, it just doesn’t cut it.
I came across a quote a couple weeks ago via Pinterest that read “If you are not obsessed with your life, change it.” This quote sort of annoyed me at first, because all I could think was “it’s not that easy.” After much contemplation, and several naps, I realized that it might not be easy but it is DEFINATLY, possible. I guess what I am trying to say is, you shouldn’t wait for the beginning of the year to make your life exactly how you want it. If you are unhappy, you should be making changes not just “sticking it out” and waiting for an opportune time. I have come to find out, in my 18 years of life, that most of the time (not always) if you are unhappy, it is time to make a change.
So maybe you think I’m wrong, and I certainly could be, but I still stand by my original statement. You don’t need to wait for January 1st to make a positive change in your life or in other words a “New Years” resolution.
