Just because you are single this Valentine's Day doesn't mean you are doomed to have a horrible holiday. I know that it can be difficult to scroll through Instagram or Facebook and see all your friends with their significant others being all lovely dovey with the captions: #bae #relationshipgoals #Forever #CutestCouple. And here I am eating a bag of Oreos watching romantic movies on Netflix.
Don't get me wrong; I'm so happy for all my friends, but also I get a little depressed and sad because I feel like I am left behind and missing out.
That's how I felt last year, but this year, instead of being sad about my single status, I am going to celebrate it!
Being single is not suppose to be a sad, depressive, gloomy thing, but that's how we feel about it, especially on Valentine's Day with all those couples around.
But being single is awesome! It means you have the freedom to do what you want when you want; that you have no worries or stresses on Valentine's Day. So instead of calling it Valentine's Day call it VALUE YOU DAY! Because being single means you can still have fun and enjoy this holiday of Love! What greater Love is there, then Self-Love!
Here's one idea: when you are feeling sad and lonely this love season, just jam out and listen to some uplifting music that just shouts: HEY, I'M SINGLE AND I'M PROUD! Here's a list of some of my favorite songs when I need to be reminded that it's all good!
1. Single (Natasha Bedingfield)
2. Love Myself (Hailee Steinfeld)
3. Little Me (Little Mix)
4. Single Ladies (Beyoncé)
5. Here (Alessia Cara)
6. Boy Problems (Carly Rae Jepsen)
7. Heart Hope (Oh Wonder)
8. Cool Girl (Tove Lo)
9. Words (Daya)
10. Fireworks (Katy Perry)
11. She Will Be Loved (Maroon 5)
12. Girl on Fire (Alicia Keys)
13. Shape of You (Ed Sheeran)
14. I Don’t Need A Man (The Pussycat Dolls)
15. Me, Myself And I (Beyoncé)
16. Stronger What Doesn’t Kill You (Kelly Clarkson)
Another way to celebrate your single status is to remember these few things of why being single on Valentine’s Day isn’t the end of the world:
- You can spend your nights out and not worry about having to be home at a certain time. It’s like a boost of confidence!
- You don’t need another person to have fun with! You are the party!
- You love and respect yourself and realize you don’t need someone to feel fulfilled. It isn’t the end of the world — #SelfLove. You are comfortable with who you are and what you are doing with or without somebody
- Just because your friends have someone to spend this time with doesn’t mean you should suck. Go out and make your own Valentine’s Day adventure.
- You still deserve to have some sweets! Who doesn’t love candy and chocolates! You can buy all the sweets you want and there is no shame to that! You are a sweetheart!
- There are many people who are single, too, so don’t feel like you’re the only one! Hey, here’s an idea: go out, find some single friends, and make Valentine’s Day a fun group thing!
- Treating yourself! Buy yourself something nice like a new outfit or some new shoes. Hey, you love yourself don’t you? You deserve to spoil yourself occasionally!
- Don’t think being a couple is all that Valentine’s Day is about! It’s the day of love! That means all love. Like love for your family, your friends, your pets, life, the world, etc. You can celebrate any type of love. Show everyone how much you love them.
- You are a beautiful person inside and out. You are a special person with a dazzling personality. You may feel lonely right now, especially around all the love, but there is someone out there for you; it just takes time and patience. Just think, one day someone will walk into your life and all those times you spend alone will have been worth it!
So, keep your head up and smile. On Feb. 14: put on the cutest pink and red outfit you have, your happiest smile, and walk with the utmost confidence. You're single baby! Flaunt your singleness! Happy Valentine's Day!
