Don't let fear of what could happen make nothing happen. Fear will hold you down when you should be running. Fear will kill your hopes; it will kill your dreams. We spend the majority of our lives living in fear. When we're young, we're afraid of the dark; we were afraid to ride that bike for the very first time, but eventually we get over those fears. So why is it that when we grow up, we let fear take over our lives. Why do we sit back and become content with average? It's all because of fear.
Any time an opportunity presents itself, our minds make 10 different excuses as to why we shouldn’t be doing this; it gives us 10 different reasons as to why we should be afraid.
There was once a thief who stole from his king. When the guards presented him to the king, he was given two options: either to be hung by a rope or take whatever is behind a big, scary steel door. Without hesitation, the thief chose to be hung. Just as he was about to be hung, he asked the king out of curiosity what was behind that door. The king laughed and told him that behind the door was freedom. So why do you think the thief chose death over freedom? Because he was scared of the unknown.
Just like the thief, when an opportunity comes our way, whether it's a business opportunity, an investment opportunity, etc. our minds make up excuses for us. But our mind is afraid of the unknown; it doesn’t know what is going to happen, so we miss a lot of opportunities.
Before we can get over that fear, we need to change our mind set. We need to learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
When I was 17 I got my first job working in the mall for minimum wage and without benefits. To the majority of people, it would be great for a first teen job, but not for me. I knew I had more in me, so I had two options: to either continue this job or focus on my education – and that's exactly what I did. I quit my job and focused on education. I put myself in a position where I had no other options but success. It was succeed or don't eat! It wasn't easy looking fear in its eyes, but let me tell you... this was definitely worth it!
Just like when we are young, we get over the fear to ride a bike because we are not afraid of the risks involved. We are too focused on the opportunities to think of all the risks involved. We don’t think about falling off the bike. We are focused on riding around the neighborhood with our friends.
We need to be that kid again. We need to look at all of the opportunities around us and not focus on the risks. Because at the end of the day, what's the worst that can happen? You can fail, that's it. Like I mentioned before, failure is necessary for success. Your failures are your building blocks.
Now let me ask you again, what could you do if you had nothing to fear?
