When you were younger all of the teachers would ask you, "Are you excited for the upcoming holiday?" You would say, "Oh my gosh! Yes!!!!! My mom decorated the whole house, and I'm so excited! I'm dressing up and I'm going to my grandparents house." Or whatever kids say.
When we were younger it wasn't really a choice. It was if your parents celebrated it, if your school celebrated it, then you were pretty much celebrating it too. Now when you grow up, you'll learn that that's not how it is.
You are the only person that can decide if you're going to celebrate the holiday or not. Like if you don't want to dress up for Halloween you don't have to, and that's completely up to you.
You don't have to be at your school holiday party, and your mom doesn't put cobwebs around the house. You live on your own, so if you decide you want to completely skip the holiday and not go anywhere you could, and it's like nothing ever happened.
It's like that holiday didn't even occur for you because you decided to not be a part of it. It's the same thing with Thanksgiving and Christmas, if you decide not to be with your family on Thanksgiving then that's up to you. That holiday doesn't even have to exist for you.
If you decide that you don't want to listen to Christmas music, hang a wreath on your door, put up a Christmas tree, and buy ornaments for it, then that's on you. You don't have to give any presents, so you can just skip the holiday all around.
That's the thing about growing up. You're the only one that can decide things for you, so maybe when you were younger it was cool to be the Grinch of the family like "Oh I hate Christmas." "I don't want to do anything." "I don't want to go see the family."
When you're older, if you're a grinch then you're absolutely miserable, and you start to actually turn into the grinch (mentally and physically). If you don't want to listen to Christmas music, if you don't want to give presents if you don't want to be in a good mood because it's supposed to be the only happy time of the year then that's up to you that's your thing.
Leave those alone that want to be jolly and listen to their festive music starting in October. They have the right to be excited and have something to look forward to. You never know what could have happened in their life to make them be so excited for the holidays.
