With the world being closed, I have found myself doing the strangest things to pass time. One of which was catching tadpoles. I decided to keep them seeing as their puddle was bound to dry up and that came with many lessons.
Find a container to keep them in before catching them.
After catching nearly 50 tadpoles, I had no idea where to put them. I knew they needed a better environment than the bowl they were in so I raced to find the perfect cage.
Check on the tadpoles daily.
I didn't realize how fast tadpoles legs grow. If I wasn't home more than usual, I might have missed their growth! This was one of the coolest parts of having them.
Let them go when you can see all four legs.
I wanted to keep my tadpoles until they were frogs. However, whenever they grew all four legs they started drowning in their cage. Therefore, it was time to put the survivors back into a puddle.
There are probably better ways to raise a tadpole than the route I took... however, it was an experience that I learned a lot from. When in doubt, they are probably going to be better off in their natural habitat.
