Size Does Not Equate To Beauty | The Odyssey Online

Yesterday, I saw a post that really hurt me, more than you could imagine. Not just for me, but for girls and young women that struggle everyday to find ways to love themselves, just because they're a little bigger. It mentioned that some clothes that are made should not be made for bigger people, because it's "disgusting" and fat people are "ugly." Let me tell you why that's bullshit.

Because you're beautiful. You're beautiful if you're skinny. You're beautiful if you're big. You're beautiful despite your flaws, despite your insecurities, despite the whispers that you hear in your head that tell you every day that you're not. Let me say it again, just to make myself clear. You're beautiful.

Why? Because size does not make you beautiful. Your heart that spreads constant kindness makes you beautiful. Your mind that allows you to think outside of the box and change the world makes you beautiful. Your smile that shins and radiates and makes other people happy makes you beautiful. And despite the people that tell you there isn't beauty because of your "fat" or your "boniness," there is beauty. Despite your constant self doubt, self ridicule, self hatred, there is beauty. You may not see it now, so I will scream it for you. I will scream at the top of my lungs to remind you that you radiate everyday. I will long alongside you and be your reminder every day that you are beautiful until you are able to remember it yourself.

So, here's to you. The people struggling everyday to love themselves. You are beautiful, no matter your size. Love yourself. Love yourself fully clothes, love yourself naked. Your body is a temple, treat it as such. Wear the crop top, wear the swim suit, wear the shorts. Your beauty will not go unnoticed, I promise. And if you ever feel down, there are constant people that are here to pull you up, because you deserve to love yourself.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
