The release of Selena Gomez's new song, Lose You To Love Me, has sparked much controversy regarding particular lyrics in the song and whether or not they are attempting to dig at Hailey Bieber (Baldwin). Very shortly after Selena released the breakup song, Hailey posted a screenshot of Summer Walker and Jhene Aiko's song, "I'll Kill You."
The media started roaring at this, jumping to conclusions that Hailey's post was a dig at Selena's song, which was a dig at Hailey. This just isn't the case. Some are arguing that Selena's live feed presence addressing the issue was all about preserving her media presence and reputation, but that's simply not the case.
Whether or not Hailey posted the song on her Instagram story as a way of digging at Selena, Selena's song was simply about getting over a bad breakup and learning to love yourself after someone made it seem like you're impossible to love. Her song emphasizes self-love and empowerment and was not intended to be a malicious song used to offend or demote others, and so everyone needs to stop making it out to be as such. The only reference in Selena's song which can be linked to Hailey is when she says, "in two months you replaced us." The only person Selena takes a stab at in her new song is Justin, and it has nothing to do with Hailey other than the fact that she happened to be her replacement.
Fans and the media need to accept that Selena's song is solely about learning to find yourself after a bad breakup and that sometimes it may take a while, but a bad breakup may be what one needed to be able to find themselves again and love themselves more than they ever had.
Coming from a similar breakup situation to Selena's, I personally attest that this song is about showing Justin and the world that she is now better than ever and that though the breakup hurt her, it made her even stronger than she ever was. Selena is and always has been an extremely kindhearted, caring, and loving person, and she deserves to be treated as such. Many people experience similar feelings to those portrayed in Selena's song after a breakup, and so we should all leave the Selena-Hailey drama alone and support Selena for her ability to find self-love again and support all of the hard work and vulnerability which she put into this song for the world to relate to.
