Make Kindness A Priority | The Odyssey Online

Growing up, I didn't know who I was. I didn't know what I wanted, what was important to me, or what I was passionate about. Throughout my childhood though, there was one thing that was always consistent. I wanted people to know me as kind. Out of all of the adjectives in the world, that one was the one that mattered the most to me.

In a world where nothing is forever, and there are a lot of things that can't control, kindness is one of them. The world can be a dark, scary, overwhelming place. That is something that is easy to debate and hard to look past. That's why I've made it my main goal in life to be kind. In my opinion, if I'm kind, I'm successful.

Kindness is the cheapest thing you can gift someone. All it takes is a compliment, a smile, a joke, whatever it takes to make someone feel appreciate and loved. Kindness is often overlooked now. People feel that it's not as pivotal as it actually is, when in reality, it is more needed than ever.

With things like social media, kindness is easy to send. That being said, it can also easily influence things like self confidence, worth, and anxiety. It's important now to check up on people.Make sure they're doing okay. Sometimes, it's good to just send a message. They don't have to reply. It's a good feeling to know that you're being thought of.

Another good thing is to keep a positive attitude. Kindness and happiness are contagious. A smile, a laugh, a look can go a long way. One smile can mean the world to someone, and often times, it doesn't end there. Kindness starts a chain reaction.

Kindness goes a long way. As obvious as it sounds, it can be one of the most important things in a person's life. Still, with that known, it's not often that it is shown. My challenge for you is to realize the importance. Make your life goal to be the kindest person you can possibly be.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
