Many of us have gotten into arguments or had a bad situation with either our best friend, parents, or significant other and thought that there would be no solution to the problem. Sure you can apologize, but apologizing isn't always helpful. That person can still be mad or hold a grudge against you, or vice versa. However one of the best things you can do to help in a situation like that is to add a bit of humor to the event and in most cases that will help lighten the mood and make the relationship repair once again.
From personal experience I was involved in a situation that I thought I would never feel better after. Before you read what I have to say, it may be a sensitive topic so I advise you that if talk of suicide makes you feel uneasy then please stop reading. This past summer I was at a sleepover with my friends when I received a text from my mother, whom I am not very close to, that she mentioned ending her life. In that situation I instantly panicked and broke down, I was worried about the safety of my mom and I was afraid I was going to lose her. After I called the police to send to her home, I was informed that she was okay and didn't plan on ending her life however I still couldn't calm down. To make the problem better my friends decided to talk about some really funny times we had together, things like how we named restaurants wrong, or when one of us would all on our faces from tripping on nothing. Even though I felt like I was in such a dark place, remembering those things made me laugh uncontrollably. After sometime I felt completely better and didn't really think about the situation again.
Even in the roughest of places, humor can fix it. It only takes a little to spark a laugh into someone and make them start to feel better. Having a laugh after a situation that you thought you weren't going to recover from is amazing. All of the stress and fear and anger you were caring is now lifted off your shoulders, and you can finally have a clear mind again. So the next time you find yourself stressing over a situation, remember that humor can make it better.
