Here Is What You Need To Know About The Coin Shortage Happening...So You Can Keep Your Two Cents-Literally

Working at a gas station, I give out frequent amounts of change until now. Recently-the the last few weeks there has been a nationwide coin shortage. Our nation's federal reserve has been put on hold which has delayed the distribution of money coins: Pennies, dimes, nickels, and quarters. Here are few things you can do with the extra change that you're holding onto.

As mentioned I currently work at a gas station. Every time at work I am in some way giving countless amounts of change back to people from their purchases; That is unless they pay with a credit or debit card. Lately this past week I was told to try not to give back change but instead ask customers if they would like to round up to the next dollar to support and donate to the Negro League Baseball Museum's 100 year anniversary. While I do ask people if they would like to, it's about a 50/50 chance whether they want to or not.

Change: one thing my register drawer runs low on frequently. To those that do not decide to donate, I give back their change as I would regularly-except I try my best to keep quarters because that is what we are low on most! While it's better to give out five coins for 95 cents, I give back two quarters, four dimes, and one nickel and call it a day. For those that want to use exact change, I recommend having a little cup of coins in your car at all times and bringing in a few when getting snacks-that is at least for a gas station.

While moving into an economy without coins would be a terrible idea that's for another article- those that don't have exact change or don't want to donate could use the option of paying with a card. There is some good news in this coin shortage though, it is almost over. The federal reserve is going back to work this week which means that banks, stores, and anywhere that gives out coins will be back with sufficient funds in terms of having coins.

Hopefully, these coins get out soon because well...I would like to not worry about running out or dimes again.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
