Don't Be Like Amber Heard | The Odyssey Online

If you haven't noticed in the news, there's been a lot of stuff about the case that is pending between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Most people know the name Johnny Depp, being as he's starred in movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward Scissorhands, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Most people don't know him for his ex wife, Amber Heard. Well, until now.

In 2019, Amber Heard claimed that Johnny Depp had been physically abusive to her. Now, in 2020, audio recordings released by Depp himself actually proved that he was the one being abused. Now, Heard is being sued for defamation for up to 5 times her reported net worth.

It's saddening to see that a woman that has a platform to influence so many people can use it for her own gain. Not only that, but she is using it to vilify a man that was a victim. As a woman, I'm here to say: Shame on you, Amber Heard.

Women have been working so hard to push themselves forward in life. After centuries of being seen as the weaker link, women have been able to take huge strides to show that we are powerful, strong, and able to be our own entity. It is women like Amber Heard that undermine the decades of work that other women have put in.

In a nation whose first instinct is to protect a man and silence a woman, this is the last thing that we need. These women are the reason it is so difficult for other victims to step forward. If women are continually crying wolf, it makes it easier for the justice system to waive off another abuse case as a "false accusation."

So now, I ask men and women to do their part. It is our job to raise victims, men and women. It is our duty to protect those who stand voiceless. It is no longer acceptable for people to live in silence and fear. Do not support those that victimize and attack others. Instead, rise up and support those that are attacked. It's the victims' turn to have their say.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
