A woman from Michigan saved up hundreds of dollars in order to buy a phone for her daughter.
She wanted her daughter to be able to have the best possible start of school and paid $450 for an iPhone of the app 'LetGo.' They set up a meeting in an apartment complex nearby, and they paid the $450 and got the iPhone box.
As soon as they were handed it, the seller took off running and the box was just containing two bars of soap. They could not catch up to the woman, and immediately called the police.
The seller used a fake name when signing up for the app, but is being tracked because she used her own phone number.
They found out that the seller was an 18-year-old woman who had also been bragging on social media. Police sent her a ticket and said that if she does not show up to her court date, they will put out a warrant for her arrest.
The mom who bought the phone says that she wants people to be aware that the best place to meet up for that type of online transaction would be at a local police station. She was finally able to get the phone for her daughter but got it through Craig's List and they took precautions to make sure that it was not another box full of soap.
