Shine Your Own Light

Finding confidence starts by figuring out what makes you individually shine.

Finding yourself within a huge world can be super overwhelming and stressful.

One of the biggest problems that arises in people all over the world, especially now with social media, is comparing yourself to other people. The best (or worst) part about social media is the fact that celebrities and people posting content can put whatever version of themselves they want displayed to the world. Things like wearing pants that ripped two hours after the picture, a picture of a plate of food that wasn't even that good, or even just a picture of someone smiling when the whole day was filled with sadness.

Simply making their lives seem a lot more glorious than they actually are is a specialty and is used heavily on all platforms. Acknowledging that we are all human and emotions are normal, but showing them on social media unfortunately is not a common thing seen.

But outside of social media, what I have learned is to not look to anyone else for confidence. That finding yourself starts with analyzing what makes you truly stand out.

Confidence truly starts and ends with a mentality. Whenever you enter a room, you can choose to strut what your Momma gave you, or be scared of constant judgement.

Realizing that people are going to judge whatever you do, say, or look like regardless is a very important lesson to take into account. But not letting any judgments have any control on your life, is a start to complete happiness.

Take candles for instance. Each of them provide a completely different scent throughout the room, but the one thing that they all have in common is that they are meant to shine in their own way.

I take that with me to real life and loving myself. I must find what scent (or characteristics) makes my flame shine through the room. Because at the end of the day, you definitely have similarities with the people surrounding you but it is the differences that truly separate each of us as individuals.

My advice is when you are looking into the mirror, give yourself the love that you give your friends and family. Instead of seeing your flaws as a negative, think of them as what makes you you.

The best feeling is knowing that there is no one like you in this world.

So find your light and let it shine throughout your life!

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
