“Grab them by the pussy.”
These are the words coming out of the latest Donald Trump leak from a 2005 video with Access Hollywood host Billy Bush. As the media tends to focus on the unnecessaries of the situation, like finding the identity of the married woman or tearing apart his scripted apology, this has to seriously be the last straw for Americans who are thinking of voting for him. Before I begin my spew on this recent leak, let’s look back at Trump’s track record with women and the unsettling comments he’s made about them in the past.
In 2006, he told The View if Ivanka Trump was not his daughter, he’d be dating her.
In a 2004 interview with Howard Stern, he admitted how beautiful a 12-year Paris Hilton was and watched her sex tape (while Hilton was still a minor) with his current wife, Melania Trump. On the same show he’s made comments like:
“I view a person who is flat chested is very hard to be a ten.”
“I like kids, but I won’t do anything to take care of them.”
“She’s a great beauty, but she’s a great beauty inside, which is almost as important.”
If that's not enough to convince you, here are some more appalling comments made by the GOP candidate:
Esquire Magazine, 1991: Nothing else matters “as long as you have a young beautiful piece of ass.”
Donald J. Trump’s Twitter, 2013: “26,000 unreported sexual assaults in the military-only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?” (On sexual assaults in the military.)
Donald J. Trump’s Twitter 2013: “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?”
Rolling Stones, 2015: Commenting on Carly Fiorina, former republican candidate rival, “Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
Are we serious? Are we as women serious? Are we as Americans serious?
Yes. It is time that this man’s farce of a show comes to an end. How many more leaked videos and interviews will resurface until the United States of America will come together and realized that this man is not running to Make American Great Again. Instead, he is defiling the image of a great nation with his degrading comments towards women. This man has no respect for the female body, mind, or soul. He does not see women as equals and has continuously promoted the sexualization of the female body. There are over 160 million women in the United States. They make up more than half of the American demographics (with 157 million men in the USA). How will disrespecting more than half of the American population win the election for this man? It won’t. Because Donald Trump, let me voice this loud and clear to you:
You disgust women. You make them feel uncomfortable. You make them feel used. You make them feel unsafe in a country that is supposed to do the opposite. And as a woman, who at a young age endured sexual abuse for years by the hands of a man as misogynistic as you, you will not receive my vote and you will not receive the vote of self-respecting American women.
Donald, your behavior only encourages sexual assaults on college campuses, cities, and towns that go unreported, they encourage misogynist behavior from young men who think it's okay to joke about a women's body or reproductive system, it encourages body shaming and discrimination based on a women's looks, shape, or race. It teaches young women they are not good enough because they are not thin or blonde or full enough in their rears or breast. What it teaches is a misrepresented view of women that is outdated, false, and ill in so many forms that it would require years of education and guidance to reverse the damage your words have done or will do in the future.
The GOP will not survive much longer to stand for “GRAB OUR PUSSIES.” Many prominent republicans have publicly supported Hillary Clinton, instead. We can only hope that this latest spur of words will guide those who are still unsure to use their consciences and think clearly of the decision they will be making November 8th.
Reminder: With less than one month until the 2016 General Election, October 11th is the last day to register to vote (by mail) in the state of South Carolina. Do your part and do it right.
