The other day, I was sitting in the back of a white Dodge Journey, casually talking with my friend Casey as our Uber driver chauffeured us to our destination. The radio’s volume was just high enough so that the words of the broadcaster could be made out even through our conversation. Not surprisingly, the topic of this radio show was the upcoming presidential election. As we were progressing down Baystate Road, our driver suddenly burst out in uncontrollable laughter. When we questioned why, we could barely make out the words through his howls: “Donald Trump actually has a chance of becoming our next president”.
And with that, Casey and I burst out laughing too because honestly, how ridiculous does that sound? How crazy is it that our country is just a few votes away from having an arrogant, misogynistic, childish man running our country?
Now my problems with Donald Trump are not really his policies since he has made it pretty clear from the past two debates that he actually has literally no idea what he is talking about. My problem with Donald Trump is that he is an asshole who thinks he can get away with murder because he is a white male with a big wallet.
I genuinely do not understand how so many people could want a man of his character representing our country. If I’m being honest, he doesn’t even deserve for me to call him a man. He is a child. Donald Trump does not know how to admit when he is wrong, has a temperament far worse than any elementary schooler I know and can’t even give a straight answer in a debate. How am I supposed to be able to trust a person who feels the need to put down anyone who opposes him via twitter with the security of this country?
I legitimately cannot scroll through my Facebook newsfeed without seeing a new article of the latest ridiculous comment Trump has made. I actually feel like I am in the Twilight Zone sometimes with how offensive and ignorant the comments he makes are, yet he still has a strong following.
In one of his most recently resurfaced quotes, Trump states, “I’ve got to use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her…You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait…When you’re a star, they let you do it… You can do anything… Grab them by the pussy… You can do anything.” And guess what, I wasn’t even surprised when I heard he had said that. How god damn sad is that? What’s even more sad, is that he gets to dismiss these misogynistic comments by calling them “locker room talk” and people are actually buying it.
Honestly my uber driver seems to have the right attitude towards this election. Die-hard Trump supporters aren’t going to change their opinions no matter what crazy thing he says next. All we can do is make sure to vote and hope for the best.
