Donald Trump And Immigrants

You might want to reconsider what you said, Mr. Trump.

For some reason, people appear to love this man.

In my eyes, Donald Trump has certainly crossed the line. He has an extremely controversial character that has set him apart from many, especially now during his run for presidency. I once was indifferent about him as an individual, until he spoke out on the children of immigrants.

This speaks words to me because I was born to undocumented parents. And I am certainly proud of that. It is ridiculous that he has the audacity to say that because our parents were born in countries outside of the United States, we ourselves, are not citizens. Mister Trump, have you looked at the 14th Amendment? "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside." We were born here, so what exactly does that make us to you? We have as much right as those individuals born to non immigrants.

If enough thought was put into this issue, one could argue that we may all be immigrants one way or another. We cannot go back to previous generations and identify where our ancestors came from. Nothing guarantees that they were citizens back then either. In any case, Trump himself may even be one of those babies who was born to undocumented parents. So would that not make him an immigrant?

Since we live in a country where we are granted birthright citizenship, which defines the entire issue that Trump is attempting to disrupt, we cannot undo the fact that because we were born in this nation we are citizens even if our parents were not. The fact that he plans to send all immigrants and their children back to their countries, and that the "good" ones could apply to come back to the United States is absurd. I was born here, why would I have to apply to come back to my birth country? This man's ignorance is baffling. He does not realize that these so called "bad" people born in countries such as Mexico, El Salvador, and Ecuador have done as much good to the country as those that he considers "good" and were born here.

His stereotypical stand on immigrants is simply out of control. There are criminals all over the world. Just because a specific country is known for it's high criminal rate does not mean that every individual from there commits crimes. And this also applies to the contrary, not everybody is considered good in a specific country if said country has a high percentage of its residents dedicating themselves to community service. If Donald Trump plans on becoming our next president he should reconsider his opinions on immigrants because the children of the people he intends on shipping back to their countries still have a say in the upcoming presidential elections.
