As I sit down to write this post, four thousand miles away from the United States, I’m in my kitchen eating pringles and looking over Max Lucado’s recent post on Donald Trump. I get homesick every now and again. I really miss my parents, my dog (love you Doc!), my boyfriend, my best friends, my church family, my team and my sorority. I miss a lot about the United States. I miss the mountains and beaches, the sun (it’s almost always overcast here), the friendly hello from your southern neighbor, Target (I never thought I’d say it, but good God I don’t know how I ever lived without it), the enormous amount of dogs and Chick-fil-A. Don’t get me wrong, I love England. It’s beautiful and has a rich literary background and history. However, I only have under one hundred days left on this continent and when I come back there will be 161 days until the presidential election. The funny thing is, I thought I’d be away and I wouldn’t hear much about the election from across the pond, but I have. I’ve heard a lot. I’ve heard a lot of voices from a lot of different countries telling me who they want to win and why. And how disappointed, but not surprised, they will be if Donald Trump wins the nomination. A man who doesn’t care about people in my opinion. And honestly, if he wins, I don’t really want to be in the United States.

Trump is a certified narcissist with toxic ideas that seem to be spreading among voters like lava might a village. It’s leaving the humanity of those people who touch it, burned and then hardened. So why is this vermin of a man becoming so popular among voters?

I guess if he shouts loud enough, it’s hard for people to think. Because since when is it okay to dehumanize so many demographics of people? I’m struggling to recognize that so many think that he will “Make America Great Again” mostly because it hurts me to see so many look at another human without any love or compassion. So let’s talk about people.

Donald Trump is not on the side of women. He doesn’t treat them with respect. Megyn Kelly, a Fox News reporter, called Trump out for the way he’s labeled women. Trump said he didn’t worry about “political correctness” and later called her a “bimbo.” Sorry Trump, but isn’t Fox News usually supporting the conservative candidates? I think it would be best to have them on your side.

He doesn’t recognize women as anything other than something to sexualize. He’s mentioned his girlfriend at the time as, “a sexy piece of ass” in Esquire 1991 and said Angelina Jolie is not attractive because of how many men she's married. He said in a tweet on rape within the military, “What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?” I don’t know? Working together? In a safe? Environment? Maybe? Even? A level of? Respect? For each other? Card games? Comradarie? Anything besides rape?

In addition to his disregard for women, he is extremely racist. For one, a person can’t be illegal. So while Trump loves to call people “illegals”, a person by law cannot be illegal by existing. They can be considered migrants, but not illegals. He’s also condemned most of the country of Mexico as rapists, drug dealers and thugs. He said, “And some, I assume, are good people.” He’s not for allowing the Syrian refugees to enter the states, even though they literally are fleeing for their lives. He has said we’d have to watch mosques more than ever. This means he doesn’t trust those who practice Islam either. Trump wants to deport any undocumented people. That separates how many families? That uproots how many people? It doesn’t help that the KKK openly supports Trump. How much more racist does it get?

So tell me, how do people actually support someone who only supports one demographic of people? I don’t have time for those who have lost all compassion and humanity. People have to be treated like people. Do we really want a president that doesn’t value people? I don’t.

Where ya going, little guy? I wanna come too.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
