Donald Trump has canceled his London trip, blaming former president Barack Obama for moving the U.S. embassy, which according to Trump he sold for "peanuts".
Trump claims the old embassy was "the best located and finest embassy", criticizing Obama and his administration. It was in fact George W. Bush who moved the embassy for security reasons after terror attacks like the ones in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998.
Although Trump claims he canceled his trip because of the embassy, according to London's Mayor Sadiq Khan, Trump "finally got the message" that he was not welcome in the British capital. According to CNN, "Large protests are expected to accompany any presidential visit to the British capital, where Trump is deeply unpopular."
Obviously, Trump is not very liked by the people of Britain which is actually awful for the United States. This is the first time in a long time that the president of the United States has not visited Britain's embassy. American and British people have reinstated over and over that their relationship is the most important partnership in the world. By Trump having a bad relationship with Britain and the rest of Europe, we could potentially lose our greatest ally, which is bad for both the United States and Britain.
This event may be in the interest of Britain considering they do not have to see President Trump, but for the United States, this makes our country as a whole look really bad. According to Khan, "any official visit at all from President Trump to Britain would not be welcomed." Unless Donald Trump cleans up his act and stops tweeting things at 3:00 a.m that are going to get him in even hotter water, he should be spending more time building stronger connections with people who are in support with the United States.
The people of Britain are so over his actions that they don't want him to come to their country.
If that does not say something, then what does?
