DOINK! Smokes Big Ol' Doinks At The Emerald Palace

DOINK! (pronounced with extreme emphasis) is a power trio originating in Eugene, Oregon. Miles, Sam, and Keenan describe DOINK! as a Eugenian power trio with the unmitigated gall to stretch the limits of rock, hip-hop, and jazz within a sick-Jamz-only ethos. Whenever DOINK! performs, someone in the audience yells "smoking big ol' doinks out in Amish!!!" which is a direct meme reference. The trio also wears similar outfits (white t-shirt, denim vest and shorts with white sneakers and a colorful headband) during their performances, which really adds to the DOINK! aesthetic.

"This group is just all about pure, unadulterated fun." -Keenan

"DOINK! is a very aesthetically pleasing word." -Sam

"The name DOINK! was heavily influenced by memes. I don't know what the name of the guy is, but there's a clip of him, out in Amish, smoking big ol' doinks in a cornfield. They're these huge blunts. It was a whole viral Internet thing." -Miles

"By using the name doink so much in our friend group, it has taken on an entirely new meaning. It used to refer primarily to blunts, but we've taken it to be spliffs. Specifically." -Miles

"Consensus in this group is a really wonderful thing. It's often easily acquirable." -Keenan

"We all went to South Eugene High School, but at very staggered years between each other. I've been jamming with these guys all the time for years. In the last couple years, the Sunday Bump and the funk jam at Luckey's Club were created, which was the pivotal nexus for all of us. I didn't really play funk music at all until I met them. I only really played jazz and folk at that time. Over the last couple years, we started jamming more and more and it came to a point where I wanted to have a fricking power trio with Miles and Sam." -Keenan

"Eugene has such an awesome music collective of overarching, intertwined groups of musicians. There's just such an awesome scene going on right now here and we absolutely love it." -Keenan

"Keenan was basically looking for two people who were down to play weird stuff sometimes. Sam has shown me some crazy stuff when it comes to rhythms. But honestly, I've started to fall into the Yacht Rock category recently." -Miles

"We don't deal with presupposed stuff, like Snarky puppy or something. None of our songs have THAT much structure. But since there's three of us, that's a lot of opening to just go for a bunch of random stuff all the time. On our good days, this can lead to well-created songs that have landed well, like they didn't get too crazy or anything. It went kind of naturally and it just felt right, you know?" -Keenan

"All of our songs have a really open form. They're very improvisationally based with a loose linear structure. You can kind of look at the song like it's one, big chord progression, pretty much. It's like a mountain on a grid where you can see the peaks of each individual mountain." -Sam

"Our six-month inVESTment plan was received very favorably and the other executives have given us the green light to move forward! We call this next phase 'Multilevel Doink!eting,' not for the weak-minded or the uninspired... In order to receive your Doink!coin starter pack and invaluable inVESTment tips, you must come out and participate in our live shows; that is where the true value and worth of Doink!coin will be revealed." -an infamous DOINK! post by Keenan

"You have endpoints in a song, but how you get there is totally up to you." -Sam

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
