To The One With Anxiety, You Did Good Today

You did it. One more day in the bag.

You did it. You went to work. You went to all of your classes today. You turned in that assignment. You cleaned your room. You made that appointment. You woke up early. You woke up on time. You returned phone calls.

You did it. One more day in the bag.

I know how you feel so well, you aren't alone. I wish that you could see the progress you're making from the outside. Sometimes your lens can be foggy, but that's okay. Don't lose sight because it will clear.

It can be easy to fall into the trap of comparing. Most of the time this is what I do - if they can do simple things like that, why can't I? What's wrong with me? Get yourself together.

The truth is it's okay to not be okay. But you can't give in. You have to fight because the world only has one of you. Don't deprive it of that because it's a gift. One you deserve to share in whatever way that is. It can't be replicated through anyone else.

I know that you're exhausted. I know how stressed you are. Sometimes everything feels like a battle; how can you amount to anything when getting out of bed feels impossible? I know how much you're hurting but you can't submit. Fight it. You were made for so much more.

Everyone has those days - sometimes you wake up and it's harder. You can feel it. It's going to be one of those days and you don't feel like you can take it. You can't see it, but I promise you can. Just be strong enough to get up and see it for yourself.

And we aren't perfect, of course we fail. That's okay. Sometimes the thoughts are too strong and we crumble a little. But you can't let that end it there, it's just one bump in the road.

Your job doesn't define you. Money. Your to-do lists. Grades. Other people. Your worth is up to you. Trust that you are enough because you are, sometimes things just get harder.

Be proud of little things, big things, all things! Maybe they aren't a big deal to some people but look at your circumstances. It is a big deal to look these harmful thoughts in the face and defy them. Just by getting up and doing it, you're winning. You can't lose if you continue forward. I can't promise it will be easy. I don't want to pretend it's as easy as saying "don't worry!"

Remember that everything you're doing is progress, even when you fail. No matter what each day brings it's only a testament to your strength and inspiration flows from that. The fact you tried is enough and tomorrow is a new day.

Failure doesn't define you so don't let it be discouraging. It's not synonymous with your value.

You are loved. You have value. You can do it.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
