Are you doing something about it?

If all you do is the scream, yell, and criticize everything around you but you don't actually do anything about it then maybe consider staying quiet about it.

Are you doing something about it?

During this past year, I have grown sick and tired of logging in online just to read a bunch of silly and tired complaints about every little thing that is happening around the world. It seems like during this past few months everyone has suddenly become an activist and can't stay quiet about it online.

And what bothers me is not that these conversations are taking place. No! I am glad we are starting to feel more comfortable sharing our opinions and our points of view. What bothers me is that while a majority of people feel comfortable enough to raise their voice to the point of bullying, rioting, and causing disturbances in order to "get their point across" they offer absolutely nothing to provide an actual answer to the problem.

I mean, look at politics! Almost everyone in the world seems to disagree with the way their country is heading, and they talk and protest about basically anything their government offers yet these same people do not propose a change. They expect and practically demand change yet there is nothing they are actually doing.

This has partially become annoying to me because I come from Guatemala. A country that just last year managed to bring down an extremely corrupt presidency/vice presidency and managed to avoid a catastrophic future presidency (there were candidates that would make our present American candidates look like well-liked saints) by Electing Jimmy Morales a former actor that proved to have a better moral outlook than the rest of the candidates.

But the Guatemalan people do not seem to be content. They for some reason (which in my opinion is a lack of education on politics) expected a radical change, they by now expected a president that would have turned around the country, improved the economy, combated all the corruption that has existed in the Guatemalan government since its foundation.

The poor guy hasn't been in office for one year and people already feel entitled to ask for his resignation because he hasn't done some sort of miracle with the country.

But are these people actually doing something? I mean you can't expect your government to do everything for you! Do you want a change in your country? Do you want to demand a change? Then start it yourself!

The same is happening here in America and in the rest of the world. We have entire groups of people that constantly argue against what is going on but what you can never find in their arguments is a proposal of change. They seem content with arguing and then expecting whoever else to propose a solution that will make them happy.

I don't mean to say run for office or start an organization if you want a change. But I do mean, and expect, that if you are going to open your mouth to yell and complain about something to also think and propose an answer to your problem.

If you want to argue about race, sexuality, religion, or whatever you feel strongly about, don't just disagree with me. Instead, study and put some thought behind your argument! Don't just add more noise to the background. Add some input that is worth listening to. That way, maybe, just maybe, a change will start to happen.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
