Doing the Fourth The Right Way

Because you're probably doing it wrong.

If you are lucky enough to be an American, you get to celebrate one of the best holidays, The Fourth of July. The Fourth of July is celebrated by Americans because it just so happens to be the day we gained our independence many years ago in 1776. There are many ways to celebrate the Fourth of July, but after reading this you will know how to properly celebrate the Fourth.

First, you need to find a body of water, preferable a lake if you’re going to do this the right way. Then you need good weather, but every Fourth of July is good weather, because even the sun comes out to celebrate the fourth, so no need to worry about that!

Next you will need to find a boat, a pontoon or water floats (you can even get the typical swan or donut ones that every girl seems to be getting these days). If you see a tree around tie a rope on it so you and your friends can swing your way into Independence Day!

The next thing on the list is food. Making Fourth of July themed food is the most exciting part, and is a definite must. If you don’t make a pie that looks like the U.S. flag, is it even the fourth of July? And if you don’t grill out are you even American? The answer is clearly no. Pull your grill out and throw some meat on it. This is ‘Merica, and we are celebrating the right way! Last but not least on this list is beer, and a lot of it. Save the water and just drink beer, you’ll thank me later.

Corn is not only something you should eat on the Fourth, but something you should also play, Corn Hole! No matter how horrible you are, throw some bags of rice in the air at a hole many feet in front of you. Trust me, even if you don’t make one, you will still feel the most American you have ever felt. You’re going to need to also run around with the American Flag, but make sure you don’t drop it, you’ll go to hell.

After a day full of fun with friends and family on the lake, with good food and great weather, the best part is yet to come. The fireworks are the most important part of the celebration, whether they are sparklers or the biggest fireworks, it is something that has to happen. Personally, I suggest that you go big, it is the fourth and we are celebrating our independence. So shoot some big ass fireworks even if you don’t know how to. If you accidently set your neighbors house on fire, you can blame it on me, because at the end of the day you’ll know you at least celebrated the right way.

The most important concept to take away from how to properly celebrate the fourth is to go big, be crazy, and wear your flag with pride. You are American, and everyone wants to be American because America is the best.

‘Merica!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
