This past July, my family had to put down our dog, Bailey. She was hands-down the most lovable, and tender-hearted dog I've ever met. I've been through a lot of hard things in my life, but losing my dog was a close second in comparison to the hardest. I went off to college shortly after, extremely thankful that I got to be with her during her last few days, but missing the presence of a large dog tremendously.
So, naturally, I begged my parents day-in and day-out to get another dog. For a while, they just "weren't ready" which is understandable. But, with me being the nagging, and impatient daughter that I am, I wasn't giving up.
Christmas break soon came, and I was able to come home for a month. I successfully convinced my parents to rescue another precious baby, and that's who is in all of the pictures. Unfortunately, Evie wasn't quite able to get along with our other two dogs. Despite our best efforts, we had to return her to the rescue organization about four months into keeping her.
I fell in love with Evie, though. So, this is for her.
I know many people may disagree with me, but dogs are hands-down better people than we can ever hope to be. I have my reasons, too.
1. They appreciate the little things.
I'm pretty sure people just complain that their nap wasn't long enough, much less look this content.
2. They are patient with you.
Dogs are always patient with you — Headlock and all. You can annoy your boyfriend with your love all you want, but his patience will never compare to your dog's patience.
3. They are always available for FaceTime dates.
Your long distance best friend that is always busy with work and school can't always drop what they are doing to FaceTime you when you're being needy. But, your dog? Nothing but time.
4. They know how to give good hugs.
Not those crappy one-handed hugs, either. The real deal– messy paws and all, even if it is just for that Hardee's biscuit on the counter.
5. They are always excited to see you.
Forget about everyone else who lives in your house every other day. Because when you're home from college, you get their undivided attention.
6. They aren't afraid to get a little dirty.
Most humans wouldn't willingly roll around in the grass with you, but your dog always will appreciate a little bit of messy fun.
7. I would say they don't take up your space, but they take all of it — and that's OK.
Just look at the cuteness. Can you really be mad at your dogs for taking up the whole couch when they look like this?
8. They love unconditionally.
A dog's love is unconditional. Once they love you, they will never just get up one day and stop.
