Four walls contain me with a necklace around my neck at all times
Two bowls in which I use to survive, but only when they’re full.
I did not choose this life.
To walk with four legs, a tail dragging behind me
Fearful if I make a wrong move, I tell myself, I may be endangered.
I did not choose this life.
Seeing my owners walk amongst me on two legs, with hands and feet
Showering, eating, living, loving.
I want that life.
To love and be loved, to hold and be held, kissed and not pet
Cooking and not savaging for food
I want that life.
A lover, a fighter, a family, together
That’s the life I want.
I am a dog, but not by choice.
A dog can be a best friend, a partner. They can be someone's anchor between the world and "the other side." I know mine for sure is. So if you have a pup, take the time to give them all that love they deserve because they will always show you love back.
