Whoever said you meet your lifelong friends in college was wrong because I met mine four years ago when he came trotting into our living room as just a puppy. This was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. I guess you cold say I'm a crazy dog lady instead of cat lady, but I'm perfectly okay with that title. Here's why I consider my dog my best friend.
He is always up for naps.
He knows when I come home from school and head to my room what that means. As soon as I lay down, he jumps up beside me is soon snoring louder than me.
There is always guaranteed excitement when I come home.
Whether I'm gone four hours or 30 minutes, to him it's a lifetime without his best friend. So when I start to approach the door I always know there is a 90-pound fur ball of excitement waiting on the other side. It doesn't matter if I got on to him before I left because he decided to shred the toilet paper, by the time I arrive he's forgotten and only wants to see me. Who wouldn't want something like that in their life?
He loves adventures as much as I do.
He doesn't care if we are going for a walk, swimming, or whatever. As soon as he sees me put my shoes on and say the word "go" he's in. There's nothing better than hiking through the woods with your best friend beside you.
He is the best medicine when sick.
It's crazy how dogs can tell when something is wrong or their owner is sick. He will be my cuddle buddy until I feel better. Occasionally I will fall asleep only to be woken up by a lick in the face, but other than that, he's a pretty good nurse.
He never has a problem with my friends.
To him, new people are the greatest. He also thinks everyone that comes to my house is their to see him, but I would too if I was that cute. No matter what time it is he is always up for company.
Between being the best secret keeper, the unconditional love, and loyalty Maverick gives me he is no doubt my best friend. Whoever said diamonds are a girl's best friend, clearly never had a dog in their life. So to all the dogs in the world that are your owner's best friend we say thank you and never take for granted the friend you have in your dog.
