The election this past week has left the nation feeling a little bit broken and divided. I am not here to choose sides. I am here to radiate positivity for those feeling weak and as if hope is gone.
There is only so much we can do on a large scale as citizens of America. We vote for who we believe deserves to be the face of a nation that we all hold dearly to our hearts. Many of us feel that America deserves better, while many of us are overjoyed with the win. Focus on the us in this sentence. We would be causing more harm than good if we divide ourselves in times like these.
I have heard many statements declaring that “everything we have been fighting for all these years is going to be taken away." I disagree. Take a look at our history. We have come too far to have one president destroy decades, centuries even, of dedication and hard work in four years. We will continue pushing our beliefs and declaring that we be heard each and every day. Let us gratefully acknowledge what privileges we do have in this country while continuously making progression to better ourselves and each other. We are all human, and we do our best learning in times like these. It is when we have no other choice but to stand up for what we believe in that we see the most progression.
You are more influential of change than you believe. Begin by putting into practice everything you believe. Keep gracefully fighting for your beliefs regardless of who is “in charge” of this nation. We are in charge. Donald Trump may not believe in global warming, but we do and we won't stop spreading awareness. He may want to stop funding for planned parenthood, but he could never without immense backlash from the women in this country. We may not be able to change the election, but we can fight for everything we believe in every day, which we should be doing already.
Regardless of who you voted for, I am proud to share this nation with you. Keep in mind that we all voted for what we believe would be best for the United States, and it is hard to come to agreements in any situation, let alone a major one such as this.
It doesn't matter who won the election, as long as we make sure our voices are heard.
