Last time I took time out of my schedule to write a piece on Mr. Donald J. Trump, I made the statement that his power is rooted in our inability to stop giving him the attention he commands. I told myself that I would stop writing these kinds of pieces about him. I wanted to starve the Tinkerbell of its constant need of ego reassurance. But having watched the debate on NBC, I realize that I have to continue analyzing and criticizing this garrulous human being. He continues to leave me absolutely and utterly dumbfounded. I can't fathom why a person would support such a loudmouth bully; those who side with him must be a). diehard Republicans who would rather take cyanide pills than vote outside of the party, b). people dead-set against Hillary to the point of having no other viable option but Trump, and, finally, c). the woefully uneducated. I know a lot of people in the first two camps, but the third camp is the most disturbing, and I hope for their own sake that they are just the extraordinarily vocal minority.
Trump is a horrible debater. No matter how you feel about Clinton, it's an almost objective fact that she is more skilled at debating than our orange-skinned friend. Calmly and coolly, she weathered his ad hominem attacks and petty interruptions. Out of the two candidates, I think she is the only one who offered anything of substance. While Trump felt the need to go into his ten-year-old's skill with computers, Hillary laid out actual plans for cyber surges. Trump goes on long winded rants about things unrelated to the questions asked, eating up time on the clock. He did not offer the American public anything he has not offered before. He claimed he'll bring jobs back and secure the border. Well, great, sir, you've said this all before. When someone asks you how you'll do that, you launch into one of your cop-out spiels. You all know the one. "Believe me! My -insert whatever- is beautiful, absolutely great. It is the best. China! 3,000 people have died in Chicago. I love Chicago. Chicago is great." That sounds like a kindergartner's answer, and it is not good enough for the people he wishes to lead. We deserve far better than the nonsequitur, the bragging, the excess use of the word "great."
Despite all of this, there are people who say he won the debate. I don't know how they could say that, unless they just agreed with the content. The presentation was absolutely lackluster and held no candles in comparison to Clinton's. Clinton has the experience, though that experience is highly controversial. Clinton knows how debating is handled, but the Donald does not. He turned a serious, intellectual challenge into a publicity stunt. He goes to these events acting like they are on the same level as his vapid reality shows. Politics is a serious subject and should not be treated the way he treats it. Of course, tons of people love Trump simply because he does this. I say these people are the kinds of low-brow anti-intellectuals who pitch fits over "big words." Trump is the very sign of our nation's descent into a mass "dumbing-down." So many people do not understand government, so they'd rather have some fellow blurt out catch phrases, making it all the TV shows they are somehow able to grasp.
In conclusion, Trump makes no sense to me. If anyone can figure out what the hell is going on, I'd appreciate it.
