We’ve all seen the commercials: “one man will search for the love of his life by putting 25 women into a mansion in California and going on crazy extravagant dates and traveling around the world”.
"The Bachelor" has been on the air for 20 seasons and 205 episodes. Throughout these 20 seasons we have seen villains, good girls, and down right crazy women "win" the heart of the Bachelor. But does one really win the Bachelor?
Sure there is one woman who walks away with the final rose and sometimes an engagement ring, but more often than not the "happy couple" crumbles and is no longer that happy. Don’t believe me? Let’s look at some statistics.
Only 2/3 of seasons end in an engagement.
And out of these engagements only two of the Bachelor couples are actually married: Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici (season 17) and Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney (season 13). But let’s not forget that in Mesnick didn’t propose to Malaney in the final episode, but rather Melissa Rycroft. But oops in the After the Final Rose special Mesnick realized that his heart really belonged to Malaney and dumped Rycroft on national television AFTER she had thought she found her happily ever after. So let’s recap out of the 20 seasons of The Bachelor there have only been 2 marriages. So why oh why would you go on this show?
If you aren’t 5’5” don’t bother going on the show.
Super weird and totally strange BUT the "winners" of "The Bachelor" are 5’5” on average. So random and has nothing to do with finding love BUT considering the Bachelor is on average 6’1” you have to be at least 5’5” to keep up with him. Maybe that’s the reason? I don’t know I’m making stuff up over here.
Let’s talk about your job.
If you are considering going on "The Bachelor," you should probably change your job title to one of the following: model, assistants, students or teacher. These are the most common winners of the Bachelor’s professions. Let’s be honest here a woman who walks out of that limo with the job title “free spirit” or “wine enthusiast” isn’t making it much farther than the second week. And in no way, shape or form is she getting the final rose.
The Final Rose.
Speaking of the Final Rose — it comes only seven weeks after the couple meets. And during those seven weeks it’s possible that the couple has only been on as few as four dates. Can you seriously know with absolute certainty that the person you have only known for seven weeks and gone on four dates with is the love of your life? Yeah, didn’t think so.
For the few Bachelor couples that have worked out, congratulations — you are the minority in your Bachelor family. For the couples that failed to make it much further than the start of the next season (Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray I’m looking at you) don’t worry you are normal. Actually, you may be more than normal — in the early stages of the show couples didn’t even make it to the reunion show.
After looking at all these statistics and all of the rules and regulations of "The Bachelor," I have come to two conclusions as to why anybody would go on the show: 1) You are really, really desperate to find love or 2) you are really, really desperate to find fame. Based on the amount of contestants and Bachelors that have gone on to marry someone that wasn’t on the show I am going with option 2 as the reason why people go on the show.
So good luck to the newest Bachelor couple Ben and Lauren, here’s hoping you make it past the start of JoJo’s season. And let's hope that Chris Harrison gets to officiate another Live Bachelor Wedding.
