You Don't Need A New Year To Be A New You

You’re given 365 days a year to do differently, don’t squeeze it into one day.

As 2018 approaches, we all decide what our resolutions will be.

Some want to find love, some want to be healthier, some want to do better in school, but me?

I’m proud of who I am and what I’ve accomplished in 2017.

Yes, a new year should bring new adventures and new goals.

I have goals in which I won’t achieve until 2019, does that mean 2018 will bring nothing? No!

This year, I’ve gotten everything I’ve ever wanted.

An amazing group of friends and sisters I’ll have for life, doing well in school, striving for my bachelor’s degree in Education and getting the promotion of a lifetime at work. As well as, of course, finding love.

All of which were not a part of my 2017 resolutions.

Should we make resolutions for the new year? Set ourselves one goal, why not set them all.

For one day a year, we come up with what we’ll do differently, maybe even better?

Instead, strive to do better and act more positive every day of that new year.

You don’t need one day out of that year to decide your resolutions.

My resolution will be to do differently, better, every day in 2018.

Make the choices like it’s the last day of the year.

Remember what you achieved the year before, not dwell on what you didn’t.

During New Year's Eve and New Year's, I’ll be with friends and family, celebrating the amazing things I’ve done. Not coming up with what I’ll do better.

Yes, I know resolutions are a tradition, just like what you’re thankful for on Thanksgiving or sharing the love on Valentine’s day. Though, the same principles apply.

Why not say what you’re thankful for every day and shower your significant other with love every day?

You’re given 365 days a year to do differently, don’t squeeze it into one day.

I’m not saying don’t make your new year’s resolution, I’m asking you to be proud of what you’ve done in 2017 and strive not only for that one day but for the whole year, to do better.

I know I’ll be enjoying 2017 and the success I’ve had until the very last second.

When 2017 ends and 2018 beings, I’ll still be so proud of what I did and look to do more and better every day until 2019.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
