Does my vote really matter?
This is a question that many millennials are struggling with about the upcoming election day. Whether you vote for the billionaire businessman Trump or the politician veteran Clinton, your vote, in fact, does matter.
I could not vote four years ago because my birthday is about two weeks after the election date. Which was a bummer. However, this year will be my first election to participate. I have been watching the Presidential debates and I have seen the Vice Presidential debate as well. In my opinion, I can see good and bad points from both the Republican Party and Democrat Party.
A couple of days ago, I had a conversation with a friend of mine. My friend will not go vote because they believe that their vote does not matter. Which can be considered to be quite true because the election goes by electoral votes; however, I disagree. Your vote does matter. Here is why I think it is.
The United States gave us the privilege to vote. I mean, when we first started as a country, white able men were the only ones who could vote. Several years later, white and colored men could vote. Next, white and colored women could vote along with the men. Our ancestors fought for the rights to vote because they believed that their voice in Congress can make a difference. When we register to vote and then go to the election poll, our vote may not have an effect, a but our voice can!
There will be state questions on the ballot that can affect Oklahoma within the next year or so. It's important to be informed about what you are voting for and who you are voting for. Check out this website for more information about state questions ballot.
Also last but not least, if you're a first timer like me and are skeptical to even vote in the Presidential elections, just go vote to gain some experience. Maybe it will change your mind about elections. Most importantly, our millennial generation needs to practice these rights because we are heading to be the next generation who will make a difference for the future, and this election will make history! Go vote guys!! Exercise your rights!!!!!
