For all my science nerds out there, here's a list of five of my favorite science documentaries and where to find them! As a science major, I can forget that it can get very confusing for the public if they haven't been introduced to the information before, so here are some of my favorites that I think anyone can enjoy and become informed. Science is amazing and should be more embraced by our government. The more informed we all get, the better our policy making becomes and the more informed the public is, the less politicians can sneak around! I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
1. Before the Flood , 2016.
Leonardo DiCaprio travels around the world to see how climate change is affecting other parts of the world. He speaks with world leaders and learns about efforts being taken in China and India, speaks to Elon Musk, and President Obama. Great for anyone in or out of the science field, looking for some awesome information! You can visit this link to take action! You can watch this on Hulu or National Geographic's website.
2. Particle Fever , 2013.
This documentary goes into the physics of the big bang, without breaking your brain! The documentary follows six scientists who try to further understand the big bang and how they found the ever so famous Higgs boson particle. You can watch this documentary on Netflix.
3. Planet Earth, 2007.
This is one of my favorite documentaries. Narrated by David Attenborough (that one British guy you've all heard in high school science class). This BBC documentary explores how different organisms survive and adapt in nature. This documentary shows some of the most extraordinary camera work when capturing our Home. This 11 episode series can be found on Netflix.
4. The Stand at Standing Rock, 2016.
This short 8-minute documentary was released early this November to shed light on the DAPL pipeline fight that has been going on the past 9 months. The film also describes difficulties the Native Americans face in this country and is extremely eye opening. You can watch this film right here, courtesy of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's Facebook page.
5. Terra, 2015.
This documentary explores how the human race has become isolated from nature and how we are eradicating species and becoming more and more selfish with our resources, taking from the other species on earth. This documentary is aesthetically pleasing and quite interesting. You can find this documentary on Netflix.
