I saw a picture of "plus-size" models on Facebook today. I didn't really care until I saw the comment that went along with the post, and despite its vulgarity, it raised a good point. In our quest to dispel the notion of the "size two woman," we have begun accepting that all body weights are "fine" as long as they're you.
I can almost guarantee that if I went on Google right now, I could find some sort of story about an overweight man or woman, who went to the doctor complaining of this or that and the doctor telling them it had something to do with their weight and they felt "shamed."
I feel shameful of my weight, too, but rather than simply finding people who tell me my weight is fine, I want people to lovingly tell me I'm overweight! It's not healthy to be overweight. It's not easy to lose weight (quickly at least), and it's not always easy to hear something is wrong, but it's good and its necessary, and we cannot, and should not, tell people that their choices are fine because it's just "them."
This isn't some loosely debated psychological topic; this is obesity. Obesity can lead to heart problems and can damage the efficiency of other organs, as well. It's not OK to just pretend like it's nothing more than a cosmetic problem.
It's unhealthy to be overly skinny, and it's also unhealthy to be overly fat. That's not mean, that's not hate speech, that's not me being a prick; it's just honest.
I suffer from the same problems. I eat the same unhealthy foods because they're fast and convenient. I was raised in the same culture of instant gratification and processed foods, but it can be fought and beaten.
Fresh food and vegetables may seem like a disgusting option, but over time, your body can revert to enjoying things it should. Apples make for good snacks; they're sweet and can help with weight loss.
Hummus may seem bland, but hummus and chips is a healthy and filling snack, and over time, it grows on you. Fruit is just good in general, and veggies aren't awful. Prepared properly, they make for a great meal.
Eat meat, too! I love chicken, fish and turkey, and I still eat them. When I do, I never eat any processed chicken, and I don't eat pork or beef (usually). Easy choices like that can help you lose weight, and I implore you to. Make a couple easy changes, for your sake.
Heavy exercise isn't even necessary. Walk around for half an hour, sit outside and enjoy yourself, just avoid sitting in a chair, hidden away from the world. Go out, and make a few simple changes. Make your life better, for you.
