Is Doctor Strange Too Powerful For The Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The MCU's newest hero may be too powerful.

This past Saturday, I finally got to see the newest film the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) library. "Doctor Strange," starring Benedict Cumberbatch, is a tale of a broken man who seeks spiritual guidance to help heal his body. He learns not only to do this but also some freaky ways to fight off evil while rebuilding himself physically. That's the plot of the movie in a nutshell.

Before Doctor Strange's emergence into the MCU, the Avengers crew has had a solid balance of characters that, more or less, were all mortal. The Hulk is the strongest, but even he seems like he can go down for the count if the threat is big enough. Scarlet Witch is super powerful, but she's still learning to hone her skill, so she's not without fault.

With Doctor Strange now in the mix, one would wonder how Thanos would even be a threat to anyone now. I mean, if you really truly think about it.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Strange took down big bad Dormammu at the end of the film using his knowledge of his new gifts. Now Thanos, being that he may be able to control all the Infinity Stones may pose more of a threat, but with Strange being as advanced as he is, wouldn't you think he would find a way to work around it?

It also doesn't help that we have no real backstory for Thanos at this point. The dude just seems to like chilling in his chair, being all bad ass. Something needs to happen soon that makes us feel that he can do some damage. He's suffering from the same villain problem that has been a feature in the MCU flicks (Loki aside), and he's already been in a movie!

If Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch actually teamed up, and maybe brought the Hulk with them, possibly grabbing Thor as well, what really would be the need for any other characters? That's a super team right there! Iron Man and the gang can only do so much, outside of creating a diversion.

I know that the Russo brothers will figure this out, and I have faith. However, it may have been a mistake to have Strange be so good at the end of the movie, especially since he seemed to get all knowledge of everything regarding spiritual defense. Thanos is really going to have to knock out the power players one way or another to make way for the more common good guys to figure out a method to take him down. That Infinity Gauntlet hasn't really come into being yet so who knows what it can do? I may be worrying about something that could easily be figured out when the film is released.

Whatever the case, I can't wait to finally see the Infinity Wart come to life in 2018.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
