Do You See Me Fly?

A short poem I wrote.

Do you see me? Do you see me fly?

I’ve waited, waited so long.

Longing for the day when I could touch the sky.

I’ve waited, all while you were gone.

I look like junk, I look like trash,

And I’m content with that.

For only you know me enough to not be rash.

When will you be back? Will you be thin, will you be fat?

I feel feet inside me, and hands on me!

I sense danger, and fighters all ‘round!

Two people want to run, to flee and be free,

To no longer on this sandy ball be bound.

Sound familiar?Maybe.

But I bring myself up as I feel their fear.

I feel the strength and power to be,

And I feel myself “shift into gear.”

Do you see me? Do you see me fly?

Do you see me soar, and blast down my enemies?!

Even though you aren’t here, I soar across the sky!

Asteroids, fighters, the Kessel Run, all a breeze!

Do you see me?Do you see me fly?

Do you see me, even though you’re gone?

I’ll hold close the memories of times gone by.

In my heart, you’ll always be held fond.

I sense him close, the boy, the farmhand.

He hides behind excuses and fears,

Is this really him, the hopeful one of our little band?

How his hope has gone, dwindled in yesteryears.

I feel him now, too, how he brings me to life.

He longs for the days of youth,

For hope, and a galaxy free from strife.

You would bring him, drag him by his tooth.

Do you see me? Do you see me fly?

I wonder if you watch me, as I bring her inside.

I’ll keep her safe, I swear, so long as I can fly.

I miss you, and since you’ve gone, a part of me has died.

Do you see me? Do you see me fly?

I know he’s there with you, your friend, the Jedi.

I’ve lost so much, will all my passengers die?

I’ll keep them safe, this I swear, by the stars of the sky.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

The holiday season is full of stress, debt, and forced conversation. While we rush through the month of December, it's important to take a step back and enjoy the moments before they're gone. I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
