White House, Tennessee is not the biggest city in the world, but there are some qualities from this good ole hometown that you will recognize immediately if you are from here.
1. Mexican is a Definite
If you are from White House there will be a day in your week (if you are like me, multiple days) where you will eat Mexican food. With the four different options within five minutes of each other, you will never be disappointed. Mexican has become a staple in White House, and I do not see anything taking its place.
2. Deep Seated Rivalry
Regardless of what side of the 31-W you live on, you feel passionate about one team or the other. Patriots vs. Blue Devils. The Friday night light. The crowds cheering passionately for their side of the Robertson/Sumner Line. It is a tradition is White House. Everyone has picked their side. Restaurants display banners for their team of choice. Red, white, and blues parade around this town.
3. Cows are Like the Town Mascot
If you live in White House, then you have seen your fair share of cows. They are practically on every street. You cannot take a drive through White House without seeing a pasture full of black and white. Spring is the most memorable as the fresh stench of the cows infiltrates your car, as you pass by, and your homes if you live close enough. (Friendly tip: Don't honk at the cows!)
4. Speedway was News
When the people of White House heard the news that Speedway was coming, it was like a celebrity was rolling into town. As soon as it opened with $0.10 off the gas and $0.69 slushies the town went crazy. The lines to get gas were crazy, and everyone wanted to try their legendary slushies that everyone was talking about. The lines have since died down, but the slushies are still as good as ever!
5. Clark Beckham was a Big Deal
Speaking of celebrities rolling in, Clark Beckham was a big one. A celebrity right from our own little town. Everyone in White House knows who he is. If you live in White House under a rock, let me fill you in... He was from White House and a finalist on American Idol! Schools closed down one day just because Clark Beckham was doing a concert later that night. If you still don't know who Clark Beckham is, you don't live in White House.
6. Confusion is Common
Wait, where do you live? You live with the President? I thought you said you were from Tennessee? Have you met Obama? All of these questions have been asked by someone when you tell them where you're from. People just can't seem to understand that there is a little town called White House and that we are not from D.C. Crazy right? When you tell someone where you are from (White House), you expect questions like these, it is like second nature now to be equipped with: No, I don't live with or know President Obama; I am from Tennessee, White House, Tennessee.
