Technology has changed over the last decade. It has changed the way people act, talk and even dress. When my grandma was in college, it was a lot different than what college is now. We now have apps on cell phones dedicated to specific colleges and of course, Saturdays are a huge day for college sports. (Saturdays are for the boys.)
Every university has sorority and fraternity life. I was telling my grandma that I was invited to a fraternity formal. She answered by saying, "Thats so nice that a boy asked you to another prom!" All I could do is shake my head and try to explain to my grandma what a fraternity was.
I started off by telling her sororities are for girls and fraternities are for guys. There are different kinds of each but they all have the same purpose. I also tried telling her that frats have parties on the weekend. My grandma being my grandma asked if she was allowed to go.
My grandma is 89-years-old, so she does not exactly understand what greek life is. I asked her to pronounce some of the sororities that are on my campus, but she still did not understand the names. She asked if you needed to be greek to join. It started to get a little frustrating because she was not exactly getting it, but it's funny how generations can be so different and mean different things.
Even though my grandma does not understand everything I say and she can get on my case, I still love her and I would never want her to change who she is. She can say things that makes me scratch my head a little, but she knows how to make me laugh.
