Not by their social media.

Do You Actually Know A Person?
thebodyisnotanapology

I was talking to a friend the other day and they asked me to tell them anything about myself, from the tiniest little thing even if I didn’t think it mattered. And it hit me, we don’t do that much anymore, we just assume we know a person by the things they post on social media or the things we pick out about them from the way they talk to us on the phone or the texts they send. But there’s so much more than that you could and should know about a single person.

Why do they like the color blue? What’s their worst fear and why is it their worst fear? What do they wish their name actually was? And why do they have that scar on their right foot? There’s so much more to a person than how many likes they get or how many followers they have.

You may think you know them because you see on their Instagram that they like the Patriots, or on their Twitter that they like J. Cole from their numerous tweets of lyrics. But you can’t depend on that to determine whether or not you like this person or if you think their worth your time. You never know you may fall in love with the way they talk because they pronounce certain words in a different way, or they can talk to you about something very deep that you never would have been able to know or talk about over social media/ text. You wouldn’t be able to hear that passion in their voice as they talk about something they love but you decide that you don’t like them because they post too many selfies or you saw they liked the team you hate on their social media.

But I’m here to say if you really want to know if you like someone or even want to be friends with them it’s going to take more than going on their social media because you can create whoever you want on social media but the person in real life may amaze you. So hangout, have a conversation, ask questions. Here’s a list of things that may seem stupid at first but if you ask them you may get to know a person more than you ever thought.

  1. What’s your favorite movie(s)? – This may seem like a simple and non helpful question but it can go deeper than that. For example when I’m sad or need to be cheered up I watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s. When I’m in a content mood, I watch Harry Potter. And when I’m mad or in a weird mood I watch Taken.
  2. What’s something about you that people wouldn’t assume by looking at you?
  3. What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in your opinion?
  4. If you had a day left to live, where would go and what would you do?
  5. Who has the biggest influence on you?
  6. If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be?
  7. When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up?
  8. What is one thing you would change about yourself?
  9. How would you describe yourself?
  10. Do you take horoscopes seriously?
  11. What do you think about love?
  12. Do you believe in love at first sight?
  13. Where is your favorite place in the world?
  14. Who are you closest to in your family and why?
  15. If you had to choose the narrator of your life who would it be? (If they don’t reply with Morgan Freeman then they’re wrong)
  16. What is something you’ve never done but have always wanted to do?
  17. What was the last thing that made you cry?
  18. What was the last thing that made you laugh?
  19. If you had a snow day or day off what is the first thing you would do?
  20. Are you a dog or cat person?
  21. If you could be any animal what would you be?
  22. If you could go back to any age, what age would it be and why?
  23. Do you know your heritage?
  24. What is the best compliment you have ever received?
  25. What is the meanest thing that’s ever been said to you?
  26. What’s your favorite holiday?
  27. Who is your favorite superhero?
  28. If you could bring anyone back to life, who would it be?
  29. What is more important to you: love or money?
  30. Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
  31. What would be harder for you, to tell someone you love them, or that you don’t love them back?
  32. What scares you the most and why?
  33. If you had a genie in a bottle, what would your 3 wishes be?
  34. If you could be in any movie, what movie would it be?
  35. What character or role would you play in the movie?
  36. Do you think ‘home’ is a place or a person?
  37. If you won, the lottery today what would you do with it?
  38. If someone asked you to give up drinking for the rest of your life could you do it? And how hard would that be for you?
  39. Id you had to give up one social media app which would it be?
  40. If you were to get a tattoo, or your next tattoo, what would it be?

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
