Chapter 3: Just A Normal Day

Eunha and Lilly were walking out from school together, as they live on the same street. Both of them were silent, when Eunha's cell buzzed in her hand.

--"Hey, Eunha! Can't you even bring home enough groceries?! Do I have to do everything myself!? You know what, you're freaking useless! Don't even bother coming home." Her father bellowed through the phone. All Eunha could do was to listen and keep quiet, one little peep from her mouth and all hell would break loose.

In the beginning, she would silently cry. Sometimes beat herself up...mentally and physically. She's gotten so used to the beating, scoldings, and abusiveness, that it's become normal. It was just a normal day to her. Today she really didn't want to go home. She already had enough on her plate anyway and it was Friday. She didn't have to come home for the entire weekend.

Eunha cleared her throat and put her phone back in her pockets. "Lilly, can I~"

Immediately she was cut off by her best friend. "No need to ask me Eunha. You're always welcome." She threw her arms around the weak girl, making her feel reassured in the world.

**

The ladies made it to Eunha's backyard. Eunha need to grab some clothes and other stuff before she was not found in her own house anymore. There were several bricks that would stick, almost perfectly to climb to her room. Her window would always be unlocked, and her father would never come to her room.

Eunha dropped her book bag on the ground, handing the rest of her stuff to Lilly. Carefully and skilled, she climbed the brick wall, pushing the window up with force. She crawled in and tip-toed to her closet to get her small duffle bag. Stuffing it with clothes, snacks, toiletries, and such she had finished packing.

She threw the duffle bag out the window for Lilly to catch, then she climbed out backwards carefully stepping on the bricks, with Lilly's guidance. Eunha jumped off from the last step and took her bags from Lilly.

They made it to Lilly's house sometime later, and were greeted by an excited woman.

"Lilly! Oh, I see you brought Eunha too! Come in come in." The woman exclaimed, gesturing the ladies inside.

Lilly's mother was always an exciting one. Her mother and Eunha's mother had been best friends as long as their own kids have been. She knew Eunha's unfortunate circumstances, and was devastated to hear the uneventful news. Ever since, Lilly's entire family had been taking care of her.

"Hi Aunt Rose." Eunha said, as she received a kiss on the head from Lilly's mother.

"Mom, Eunha is staying for the weekend." Lilly told her mother, as she was raiding the pantry for food.

"Of course! Just settle your stuff down in Lilly's room Eunha darling."

The two smiled and escaped to Lilly's room. Eunha threw her bags in the corner of the room and slouched on the mini chair that was there. She pulled out her pajamas and waited for Lilly to exit her bathroom. As she was waiting, her phone vibrated on the work desk. She checked the id and saw it was Jackson.

wang puppy-- Hey, what's up?

--Nothing much. Hbu?

wang puppy-- Nothing much either

--Hmm...ok

wang puppy-- OH! I forgot to tell you...

wang puppy-- Eric wanted to give his number

--thx wang puppy

wang puppy-- np. lol I didn't know about my new nickname?

--don't think about it in some random way. it's only cuz we're friends ;)

wang puppy-- haha okie then.....byee :)

--bye wang puppy :)

Eunha settled her phone on the table after saving Eric in her contacts, when Lilly exited the bathroom. Eunha quickly left her chair, suddenly flustered from remembering his name. Lilly stopped in her tracks, confused on what just happened.

**

The steam of the hot shower filled the bathroom. Eunha wiped the mirror and studied her features. Her eyes had become darkened even more, and her body was more frail than ever. This had become her life, and there was no backing out. Her mind commenced to think about the literature project -- no -- more like her partner.

There were tons of boys in her life, but never had she fell for one. Sure, Jackson was there, Nathan, Johnson, Taylor, Jimmy, and Henry too, but they were all her friends.

But...

This milky pale man changed her otherwise.

Eunha continued to think about Eric, when Lilly abruptly knocked on the door, diverting Eunha's attention to reality.

"Oh! Sorry Lilly." Eunha said, pacing out the bathroom averting her gaze from her best friend.

Eunha went directly to her phone to check for any new messages and noticed her phone was MIA. She didn't know why her heart was beating faster when she thought about Eric's texts. She barely even knew him. She just wanted to talk to him.

She inspected the area around, where she had left her phone. She could not afford to loose this phone; she had bought it with her hard earned money, since her father wouldn't buy her one.

"Looking for this?" Lilly declared, a smug expression written all over. She was spinning Eunha's phone, strutting to Eunha.

Eunha foresaw this coming. Lilly for sure was going to look through her messages, and if there was anything juicy worth considering, well.....

She will never let it go.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
