Every year it is the same, January 1st rolls around, and New Year's resolutions are made by many. The most common ones being to eat healthy, exercise, save money, etc. which are all good things! Except about only 8% of people actually achieve their goals they made on New Years, according to statisticbrain.com. I myself am guilty of this, as are many of my friends I'm sure. I tell myself I will eat healthy and in about a month, I am back to eating junk food again.
I see this where I work as well. I work in a library, shelving and retrieving books and other materials. Each year I have noticed that on the list of items people request, there are a great many exercise books, healthy eating cookbooks, self-improvement books, travel books, and organization books, all indicative of people wanting to achieve their goals and improve their wellbeing in the upcoming year. Unfortunately, all these same materials usually end back on my cart to be re-shelved in the following weeks, indicating that they gave up and fell back into old habits.
Make this year the time that you actually follow through! Prove to yourself, most importantly, and others that goals can be achieved with time and patience. Change that statistic, make the move towards a majority of people that can be motivated to succeed, and not just eight percent. Remember your mistakes from 2016 in order to learn from them. It may not be easy at times, but at the end of 2017 you can look back and think of how much you have changed and accomplished, to be a better you. The new year is like the dawn of a new day, with the sun on the rise and all the potential to be something great.
